A historic victory! Ferrari has clinched its first-ever FIA GT World Cup win, thanks to the incredible performance of Antonio Fuoco. He blazed through the challenging Macau street circuit, marking a monumental achievement for the Italian racing team.
Fuoco, behind the wheel of a Ferrari 296 GT3, dominated the 16-lap main race, mirroring his success in the Qualification Race on Saturday. He finished with a comfortable 3.960-second lead, showcasing exceptional skill and control.
But here's where it gets interesting: the competition was fierce! Raffaele Marciello, a two-time FIA GT World Cup winner, secured second place for BMW. Laurin Heinrich, driving a Porsche, rounded out the top three, making it a podium finish for three different manufacturers equipped with Pirelli tires. Joel Eriksson, in an Audi, took fourth place.
Fuoco's reaction? Pure elation! He shared, "Coming here after last year was tough but, in the end, it was a perfect weekend... We can never ask for something better than this, and I’m just so happy for me, for the team and everyone; we really deserved this. It has been a really intensive season, but this is something we’ll remember for many years.”
The race wasn't without its drama. From the very start, there was action. Alessio Picariello spun his Porsche after contact with Marciello. Then, Ayhancan Güven crashed into the barriers at Lisboa Bend following contact with Heinrich. This triggered a safety car intervention after Luca Engstler and Dorian Boccolaci collided.
After the safety car period, Fuoco seized the opportunity to extend his lead, ultimately securing the first FIA GT World Cup victory for a non-German manufacturer. Chinese driver Yifei Ye, who started second in his Ferrari, finished fifth, while Sheldon van der Linde impressively climbed from 12th to sixth place.
A victory for Ferrari, a testament to Fuoco's skill, and a thrilling race overall. What are your thoughts on Ferrari's achievement? Do you think the safety car intervention impacted the race's outcome? Share your opinions in the comments below!
