Historic Holmfirth Hotel Reopens: £350k Makeover Honors Last of the Summer Wine's Compo & Nora (2026)

Historic Holmfirth hotel reopens after a £350,000 makeover, paying tribute to local legends Compo and Nora

The Old Bridge Hotel, a historic landmark in Holmfirth, has undergone a stunning transformation, reopening its doors after a £350,000 renovation. This iconic hotel, dating back two centuries, has been given a modern twist while retaining its charming character. The makeover includes a nod to the beloved characters Compo Simmonite and Nora Batty from the classic TV series Last of the Summer Wine, adding a touch of local flavor to the experience.

The hotel's 21 bedrooms, bar, restaurant, conservatory, and outdoor seating area overlooking the River Holme have all been refreshed. The Old Bridge Hotel, managed by the Coaching Inn Group, recently named Hotel Group of the Year by Which?, has become a vibrant hub for the community and visitors alike.

The reopening event, attended by Mayor of Kirklees, Liz Smaje, was a celebration of the hotel's new chapter. Live music from Samedi set the mood, and guests enjoyed sharing boards prepared by the hotel's new Head Chef, Daniel Garlick. The food menu has been updated to include Compo's Lager, Compo's Session IPA, and a delightful cocktail named Bloomin' Nora, paying homage to the town's connection to Last of the Summer Wine.

Jordan Burrows, General Manager of The Old Bridge Hotel, expressed excitement about welcoming guests and locals to the refreshed space, emphasizing the hotel's role as a vibrant community hub. Adam Charity, Managing Director of The Coaching Inn Group, shared the joy of this full-circle moment, highlighting the hotel's significance to the local community as they celebrate their 30th anniversary later this year.

The hotel's makeover is a testament to its commitment to providing an exceptional experience, blending history with modern comforts. With its renewed charm and local references, The Old Bridge Hotel promises to be a must-visit destination for both locals and tourists, offering a unique blend of nostalgia and contemporary hospitality.
