In a surprising turn of events, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), a franchise in the Indian Premier League (IPL), have parted ways with Bangladesh's renowned bowler, Mustafizur Rahman. This decision came at the behest of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), although no specific rationale was provided for this directive.

"Due to the recent developments ongoing across the region, the BCCI has directed the Kolkata Knight Riders to release one of their players, Mustafizur Rahman of Bangladesh, from their roster," stated BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia. He added, "If necessary, they may request a replacement player, and the BCCI will accommodate this request."
Mustafizur Rahman was notably the sole Bangladeshi player purchased during the IPL auction for the 2026 season, when KKR, which is partly owned by Bollywood icon Shah Rukh Khan, acquired him for around £760,000. This makes his release all the more significant.
A statement from KKR confirmed that the release process adhered to established protocols and involved appropriate consultations, in line with the BCCI's instructions. The franchise also reassured fans that they would be entitled to seek a replacement player as per IPL regulations, with further details expected to follow shortly.
