Weather Alert: Classes Canceled Due to Severe Cold
In light of the dangerously low temperatures forecasted, the University of Wisconsin–Madison has made the decision to suspend all classes on Friday, January 23.
As we brace for a significant cold snap, residents can expect temperatures to plummet starting Friday, lasting through the weekend. An Extreme Cold Warning has been issued specifically for Dane County, effective from midnight until 1 p.m. on Friday. Wind chill factors could dip to an alarming -30 to -40 degrees Fahrenheit, making it imperative for everyone to take proper precautions.
This cancellation affects all forms of class meetings, including lectures, labs, and discussion sections. If you have any concerns or require further clarification regarding your classes, please do not hesitate to reach out directly to your instructor.
It is important to note that while classes are canceled, all other university operations will continue as usual. Employees are expected to report to their work stations as planned. Should the severe weather impede an employee’s ability to arrive at work, they should inform their supervisors and discuss alternative arrangements or the use of leave time, depending on their circumstances.
Campus buildings will remain open during standard operating hours, and services such as University Housing, the Wisconsin Union, and food services will function normally. Additionally, all UW Athletics events, including both Men's and Women's Hockey games, are expected to proceed as scheduled.
